Drombeg Stone Circle

Drombeg was first noted by Boyle Somerville in the Early 1900's. Due to its size and state, it was excavated in the 1960's by the late Dr. Eddie Fahy of U.C.C. Fourteen stones were visible before excavation but the sockets for three more were found. The burial of a young adolescent contained in a pot set upright in a pit was found during the dig. The pot contained carefully placed cremated bones, which apparently were crushed into the pot with some stone, and subsoil was placed on top.
